Karnataka ex-DGP murder: Was retired IPS officer Om Prakash stabbed to death by his wife?

Retired DGP Om Prakash (68) was found murdered at his Bengaluru residence in HSR layout on Sunday evening. Karnataka police suspect his wife Pallavi and daughter Kriti are involved in the murder.

The police arrived at the deceased cops house after his wife called the police helpline "112" around 4pm on Sunday to inform them about the murder.

According to sources, the couple had an ongoing feud ever since he retired in 2017. On Sunday, the couple picked up a fight and when Prakash, who had a gun, threatened to kill his wife, she allegedly tied him up, threw chilli powder into his eyes, poured cooking oil and stabbed him 10-12 times. After he bled to death, she wrapped his body in a bedsheet, and informed the police.

The mother and daughter had locked themselves up in a room when the police arrived.

A week ago, Pallavi had filed a police complaint that her husband was threatening to shoot her and their daughter with a gun. However, the police did not intervene, and his gun was not seized despite knowing there was constant friction between the couple.

In the past too, Pallavi had posted messages about her husband allegedly torturing her and her daughter in a WhatsApp group of police officers' wives. Pallavi has allegedly messaged another senior police officer's wife that she had killed the "monster" after the murder. Police are yet to verify the message.

The body was shifted to St John's Hospital for postmortem.

An FIR has been filed based on a complaint filed by his son Karthikesh and the mother-daughter duo is being interrogated at the HSR layout police station.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara police said that the police were questioning the wife and the probe was going on.

Om Prakash, a 1981-batch IPS officer hails from Champaran in Bihar and served as DGP-IGP of Karnataka till his retirement, between February 28, 2015 and March 31, 2017.
