IPL 2025: MS Dhoni's Frustration With Umpire Goes Viral After CSK's Crushing Defeat To Mumbai Indians; Video
Just when fans thought the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were back on track after ending their five-match losing streak, the team slipped once again, this time suffering a heavy nine-wicket defeat against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday in IPL 2025.
While Mumbai cruised to a 177-run chase with ease, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 70 off 44 balls by Rohit Sharma, the spotlight quickly shifted after the match not to the result, but to MS Dhoni’s visible frustration.
Dhoni did not join the post-match handshakes. Instead, the CSK skipper walked straight to one of the umpires and was seen having an animated conversation. The clip, which quickly went viral on social media, had no audio, leaving fans to wonder what exactly had upset the former India captain.
Although Dhoni didn’t reveal what he spoke to the umpire about, he did share his thoughts on CSK’s disappointing performance during the post-match presentation. He felt the team fell short with the bat, especially during the final overs.
Dhoni admitted, "We were below par, We knew dew would play a role in the second half. We had a chance to push harder in the middle overs and especially at the death. Bumrah started his death overs early, and that was a signal to shift gears we missed that. Against a bowler like Bumrah, even if he goes for a few runs, it’s a bonus. But we didn’t take that chance."
Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav set up MI win over CSK
The Mumbai duo shared an undefeated 114-run second wicket stand as hosts wrapped up the chase in 15.4 overs to register third consecutive win and boost their points and net run rate. Rohit remained unbeaten on 76 in 45 balls while Surya made 68 in 30 balls.
Earlier, hosts came up with another good bowling performance to restrict visitors to 176/5. Ravindra Jadeja scored unbeaten 53 in 35 balls and Shivam Dube also hit a half century. Debutant Ayush Mhatre gave the initial impetus with 15-ball 32.
Jaspirt Burmah led the bowling charts with figures of 2 for 25 and spinners Mitchell Santner (1/14 in 3 overs) and Will Jacks (4 runs in one over) conceded just 18 runs in four overs.
