Seminar dwells on integrating Indian knowledge system with modern science
Gandhi Memorial National College, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, Haryana, organised a one-day multidisciplinary national seminar on “Bridging the gap: Integrating Indian knowledge system with modern science, technology and culture” on Saturday.
Dr Rohit Dutt, Principal of the college, highlighted the significance of integrating traditional Indian knowledge with modern advancements to foster holistic development and innovation. In his address, Prof RC Verma, former head, Centre for Advanced Study in Physics, Punjabi University, Patiala, focused on the rich history of science and Indian philosophy, emphasising their relevance in modern times.
Keynote speaker, Prof Shivani Sharma, Coordinator, Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Punjab University, emphasised on the importance of integrating Indian knowledge system with special reference to culture, highlighting its potential to provide a unique perspective on modern challenges. She underscored the need to appreciate and incorporate the richness of Indian cultural heritage in contemporary scientific and technological advancements.
Five technical sessions were conducted in parallel for oral and poster presentations, with around 150 delegates presenting their papers.
Dr Shikha Jaggi announced the best oral and poster presenters. Certificates were distributed to all participants on the occasion. In oral presentation, Dr Aman Kumar Sharma from the Department of Zoology, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttarakhand, secured the first position, while Meenu Chaudhary from CZS School of Architecture and Planning, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, and Dr R Sreebha from VV Vanniaperumal College, Virudhnagar, Tamil Nadu, secured the second and third spots, respectively.
In the poster presentation event, Kanupriya and Dr Pradeep Kumar from Central University Himachal Pradesh secured the first place. Dr Neetu from Government College for Women, Panchkula, secured the second spot, while Ajay Singh Randhawa and Dr Pradeep Kumar from Central University Himachal Pradesh secured the third place.
