Rs 19 cr to be spent on upgrade of Rohru-Dodra Kwar road
Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Sunday announced that the Rohru-Dodra Kwar road will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 19.11 crore to improve connectivity and convenience for the public.
Speaking at the inauguration of the state-level Rohru fair, the minister performed the “bhoomi pujan” for the upgrade of the crucial Rohru-Chidgaon-Dodra Kwar road. Emphasising its importance, he said, “This is a vital route that connects to the remote area of Dodra Kwar. No laxity will be tolerated in its construction and it will be widened to match the standards of the Theog-Hatkoti road.”
Once completed, the travel time along this stretch is expected to reduce significantly, easing access to remote regions.
Addressing a large gathering at the Ramlila Maidan, Vikramaditya Singh said he shares an emotional bond with Rohru, a region whose developmental foundation was laid by his late father and former Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh. “I am touched by the love, affection, support and blessings that the people of Rohru continue to bestow upon me,” he remarked.
The minister added that the government is prioritising all-round development of Rohru, with various road projects worth Rs 70 crore currently underway. “With the support of the state government and my continuous efforts, I have successfully secured Rs 500 crore from the Centre, which will help accelerate the state’s development,” he said.
He also praised the decision to shift the Rohru fair from the Bazaar area to the Indira Gandhi Sports Stadium in Samla. “This move is commendable as it will help ease traffic congestion and provide a better experience for visitors,” he added.
The Rohru fair, a centuries-old celebration in honour of Shikadu Devta, continues to be a significant cultural event in the region.
The event was also attended by local MLA Mohan Lal Brakta, Rohru Municipal Council Chairman Ashok Chauhan, Farmer Advisory Committee Chairman Sohan Lal Chauhan, senior Congress workers, youth representatives and government officials.
