Education Minister launches key projects in Ubadesh Region

Education Minister Rohit Thakur laid foundation stones for multiple development projects in the Ubadesh region under the Jubbal-Nawar-Kotkhai Assembly constituency in Shimla district. Among the key projects was the ‘bhoomi pujan’ ceremony for upgrading the Matlu Sarahan Baghal road, which is being developed at a cost of Rs 2.65 crore under MLA priority schemes. Thakur stated that the improved road will benefit residents of Baghi Panchayat and nearby villages by enhancing regional connectivity.

He also laid the foundation stone for a new fire station building in Chamain, estimated to cost Rs 4.5 crore. Acknowledging the long-standing demand of locals, the minister thanked Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for supporting the project. He added that the tendering process is complete and construction will begin soon.

During his visit, Thakur attended the traditional Bishu fair in Kalbog and emphasised the importance of preserving local culture. “Fairs and festivals are a part of our rich heritage. In a modern world influenced by global cultures, it is important that our youth stay connected to their roots,” he said.

Highlighting development in the region, Thakur noted that the Jubbal-Nawar-Kotkhai constituency currently leads the state in road infrastructure, with approvals granted for 116 roads, including 15 in the Kalbog area.

He also shared updates on ongoing health and veterinary infrastructure projects. A Primary Health Centre building is under construction in Ram Nagar at a cost of Rs 2.2 crore, while a new veterinary dispensary project has completed its tender process.

In the education sector, he mentioned that construction is underway at Government Senior Secondary School, Baghal, with a budget of Rs 1.15 crore and at Government Senior Secondary School, Kalbog, at a cost of Rs 4.35 crore. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said efforts are ongoing to strengthen educational infrastructure to ensure quality learning for every child.
