‘No need for parliament if country is run by CJI’: BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul supports Nishikant Dubey

Despite BJP national president J.P. Nadda’s warning, the party leaders continue their vitriolic comments against the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India over the top court’s observations on the Waqf Amendment Act.
On Sunday, BJP MLA from West Bengal Agnimitra Paul extended her support to party MP Nishikant Dubey who had held Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna for “all civil wars” in the country. Dubey had said the parliament and state legislatures must be shut down if the apex court starts making laws.
Echoing his views, Paul said there was no need for parliament if the country was run by the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India.
"He (Dubey) has said the right thing. The President appoints the Chief Justice of India. Then how can the Chief Justice of India deny the President's order? How can he deny the decision of the MPs and policymakers of the nation?,” Paul was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
“If the country is run by the CJI and the Supreme Court, then there is no need for the Parliament. Everything should be done by the CJI then,” she further said.
On Saturday, Dubey, a fourth-time MP, launched a broadside against the Supreme Court, saying Parliament and state assemblies should be closed down if the apex court has to make the laws. He also alleged that CJI Khanna was responsible for "civil wars" in the country.
Dubey’s remarks came after the top court raised questions over some of the contentious provisions in the newly passed Waqf Amendment Act. The Centre has given assurance to the court that it would not be implementing these provisions till the next day of hearing.
The BJP distanced itself from Dubey’s remarks, saying they were his personal views. In a post on X, Nadda said he has directed both the leaders and other members of the party to not make such comments.
"The BJP has nothing to do with the comments of MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma on the judiciary and the chief justice. These are their personal comments, but the BJP neither agrees with them nor does it ever support such remarks. The BJP absolutely rejects them," he had said.
