Nashik Violence Was Pre-Planned, Strict Action Being Taken Against Rioters: CM Devendra Fadnavis

While demolition of an unauthorised dargah was underway in the Kathe Galli area of Nashik, more than 2,000 people pelted stones at the police on Tuesday morning. 21 police personnel were injured in this stone-pelting. After this, the police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and chased and arrested the protesters. Cases have been registered against 1,500 people in this case, and more than 30 people have been arrested so far. Speaking to the media after this incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his reaction.

CM Fadnavis said, "The violence in Nashik was pre-planned. There was an attempt to create riots here. After the court's decision, the citizens there themselves informed the police about the removal of encroachments, and they started removing them. At the same time, people seen in the riots deliberately pelted stones at the police and created riots. Therefore, strict action is being taken against them."

Meanwhile, the road in the Kathe Galli signal area was opened for traffic on Saturday after four days. The police have removed the barricades on the road. Although the road has been opened for traffic, there is still police presence at the place where the unauthorised constructions are located. The road was closed to remove the unauthorised constructions in the Kathe Galli signal area. However, since no untoward incident took place in the city after the action, the police have opened the road for traffic.

Cases registered against 1,500 people under 42 sections

Cases have been registered against 1,500 people at the Mumbai Naka Police Station under more than 42 sections as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Damage to Public Property Act, Arms Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and Police (Prevention of Misconduct) Act, on charges of attacking the police and assembling a crowd. Assistant Inspector Satish Shirsath has filed a complaint on behalf of the government. Meanwhile, Assistant Inspector Sudhir Patil is investigating the case. The arrested suspects are unlikely to get bail.
