World Durood Day 2025: Mumbai’s Raza Academy Offers 571 Crore Durood Shareef Prayers At Prophet Muhammad’s Grave In Medina
Mumbai: Muslims across the world observed April 20 as 'World Durood Day', the date in the Gregorian calendar marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
Members of the Muslim ulema, muftis, Sufis and Islamic organisations had appealed to the community to celebrate April 20 as World Durood Day and World Peace Day.
Durood Shareef prayers offer thanks and appreciation to Prophet Muhammad. The prayers are an important component of Islamic rituals. The year 571 AD is the birth date of the Prophet as per the Gregorian calendar. The day is also known as Yaum-e-Durood.
In Mumbai, the Raza Academy, a Sunni Barelvi organisation in Mumbai, said it organised 571 crore Durood Shareef prayers from across the world and offered it at the prophet's grave in Medina.
Muhammad Saeed Noori, president of Raza Academy, said, “People were reading the Durood prayers all over the world. The aim of the programme was to remind people about the year of the prophet's birth.”
In Mumbai, the prayers were offered on Sunday at mosques and at madrasas or theology schools. These madrasas included Faizan E Ashraf at Chita Camp, Trombay, and Darul Uloom Mohammadiya Norul Islam, Govandi. Raza Academy also created an online forum called 'Noori Durood Bank' where people could register their prayers.
Noori said that the prayers were presented by Hafiz Mustafa Raza Madni at the prophet's grave at Medina on Sunday evening at 10.00 pm (IST).
