Thane Tragedy: 6-Year-Old Boy Killed, 2 Injured As Speeding Truck Hits Bike In Titwala; Driver Detained

Thane: A six-year-old boy was killed and two others were injured after being hit by a truck in Titwala on Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as Jignesh Nikesh Raut (6), and the injured are Poonam Raut (riding pillion) and Vijay Patil (biker) (58).

The incident took place at Raya village in Khadavli under the jurisdiction of the Titwala police station on Saturday at 6:30 PM when Patil was on his motorcycle, riding pillion with his grandson and daughter-in-law. They were heading towards Titwala from Karadavali village when they were hit by a truck from the opposite direction.

They flew from the motorcycle and fell on the floor, causing a boy to come under the rear wheel of the truck. The bystanders and locals rushed to the spot, alerted the local police, and took them to a nearby hospital where the boy was declared dead on arrival while two others were got discharged after treatment.

The Titwala police said that the truck driver fled the scene after committing the accident and leaving the truck. The truck driver recklessly drove from Khadavli to Titwala and crashed into the motorcycle. Later, the driver was identified as Popat Palve, 56, a resident of Nashik, who was detained.

An FIR has been registered against the truck driver under sections 106(1), 281, 125(A), and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita and the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Suresh Kadam, senior police inspector from Kalyan Taluka police station, said, "We have detained the truck driver. The body was handed over to family members for final rites after the post-mortem."
