'Mere Kapde Bahar Fhek Diya...': Usha Nadkarni Recalls Being Kicked Out By Mother For Pursuing Acting At Age 18
Usha Nadkarni, best known for her portrayal of Savita Deshmukh in the popular TV show Pavitra Rishta, which starred Ankita Lokhande and the late Sushant Singh Rajput, recently recalled how her mother threw her out of the house when she decided to pursue acting at the age of 18-19.
In a candid chat with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa on their podcast, the actress said, "Papa ko itna problem nahi tha, maa ko acha nahi lagta tha. Teacher thi na. Maa ke hisaab se barabar tha—natak mein time nahi rehta, kabhi bhi aate jaate rehte hain. Ek din maa ne mere saare kapde utha ke bahar fek diye aur bola, 'Drama karna hai toh hamare ghar se nikal ja.’ Toh main bhi gusse mein thi. Maine apne saare kapde uthaye, Grant Road East gayi, ek bag kharida, kapde bhare aur meri ek saheli thi, jo mere saath kaam karti thi, uske ghar chali gayi. Papa mujhe office mein dhoondhne aaye the. Tab main 18-19 saal ki thi."
("My father didn’t have much of a problem, but my mother didn''t like it. She was a teacher. According to her, it wasn’t appropriate—there was no timing in drama. One day, my mother took all my clothes, threw them outside, and told me, 'If you want to do drama, then leave our house.' I was angry too. I packed all my clothes, went to Grant Road East, bought a bag, filled it with my clothes, and went to the house of a friend who worked with me. My father came searching for me at the office. I was 18 or 19 years old at that time.")
She also revealed how her father once thrashed her badly when she danced at singer Lata Mangeshkars Ganpati celebrations, which would take place on the streets. "Papa mujhe wahan dhoondh ke, maar ke ghar le aate the (laughs). Bahut pitayi ki hai papa ne," Usha added.
