Mumbai Crime: 35-Year-Old Drug-Addicted Man Arrested For Attacking Woman With Glass Shard Near Worli Sea Face
Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Unit 3 have arrested a drug addicted man for grievously injuring a woman with a piece of broken glass in a sudden act of violence. The incident took place on the afternoon of April 19 near JK Kapoor Chowk, Worli Sea Face.
The crime Unit 3 have arrested accused from Prem Nagar, Worli and handed over to Worli Police. The accused identified as Sachin Bhagwan Avasarmol (35), a native of Chikalthana, Sambhajinagar.
According to the police, the victim, Anita Patkar, was walking in the area around 1:30 PM when her umbrella accidentally touched the accused. Enraged, the accused attacked her from behind using a sharp piece of glass, injuring her seriously. The woman was rushed to KEM Hospital for treatment.
The victim’s son, Sandeep Balu Patkar (20), a resident of Worli Koliwada, lodged a complaint later that evening of the Incident, following which an FIR was registered under Section 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Worli Police Station.
Taken note of serious nature of the crime, Senior Police Inspector of Worli police Station Ravindra Katkar immediately launched a probe under the guidance of DCP Dattatray Kamble (Zone 3) and ACP Dattatray Nale. Crime Unit 3 and the Worli Police Detection team began a parallel investigation.
Acting on CCTV footage and technical intelligence, the teams tracked the accused to Prem Nagar in Worli and recovered the 11cm x 5cm glass shard used in the crime. Within five hours of the complaint, police arrested the accused, identified as Sachin Bhagwan Avasarmol. Worli Police confirmed that the accused confessed to the attack during interrogation. He has sent into judicial custody, and further investigation is underway.
