‘Iran’s nuclear programme a Jigsaw Puzzle, put pieces together and…, Tehran barely a step…,’ warns IAEA, creates uproar from Saudi Arabia to US
Iran Nuclear Programme: The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has issued a major warning during his visit to Iran. He stated that Iran is now just a step away from making nuclear weapons. Grossi described Iran’s nuclear programme as a “Jigsaw Puzzle.” This means that now it is just a matter of putting the pieces together.
According to Rafael Grossi, Iran has a high capacity for uranium enrichment. They have developed centrifuge technology. Iran also possesses the technical knowledge for designing nuclear weapons. After all this, they only need to work on it now.
The United States is seriously concerned about Iran’s nuclear progress. President Donald Trump has already withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal and is preparing to impose new sanctions on Iran. However, if Iran develops nuclear weapons, it could trigger an arms race in the Middle East. Countries like Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE will become extremely vigilant about their security.
The global oil market, peace talks, and energy supply will be affected. According to the U.S., a nuclear-capable Iran is not just a country, but a crisis.
Regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has stated clearly that they do not want nuclear weapons, but if Iran makes a bomb, they will not stay behind either. Saudi Arabia believes that if Iran is successful in its nuclear programme, it will try to establish political and military dominance. This could completely disrupt the balance of power in the Middle East.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated regarding nuclear diplomacy that if any nuclear agreement is made with Iran in the future, the participation of IAEA will be essential. Without this, the agreement will not be considered valid. This is a clear message from the IAEA that clandestine nuclear activities, absence of monitoring, and political bargaining will no longer be acceptable to the international community.
