India’s Auto Exports Soar To Record High 53 Lakh Units In FY25, Utility Vehicles Lead The Charge
India’s automobile industry set a new benchmark in exports, with total shipments surging by 19 per cent to an all-time high of over 53 lakh units in the financial year ending March 31, 2025.
The robust performance signals India’s rising stature as a global hub for vehicle manufacturing, according to data released by the Society for Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Automakers saw their combined exports increase from 45,00,494 units in 2023-24 to 53,63,089 units in 2024-25. This marks the strongest export performance recorded in a single financial year, supported by rising demand for India-made models in overseas markets and the sector’s improving manufacturing standards.
Passenger And Utility Vehicles Lead The Charge
Passenger vehicle exports registered a notable 15 per cent increase, reaching 7,70,364 units in FY25 compared to 6,72,105 units in the previous fiscal. Utility vehicles emerged as the top-performing category within the passenger vehicle segment, with exports soaring by 54 per cent to 3,62,160 units, a substantial jump from 2,34,720 units in FY24.
“On the exports front, good recovery is seen across all segments, particularly passenger vehicles and two-wheelers, reflecting improved global demand and India's growing competitiveness,” said SIAM President Shailesh Chandra.
Among the leading contributors, Maruti Suzuki maintained its stronghold, followed closely by Hyundai Motor India. Maruti’s SUV exports were buoyed by global interest in models like the Jimny and Fronx. After launching the Jimny in India in June 2023, the company began exporting it to international markets, including Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa from October that year. In FY24 alone, over 22,000 Jimny units were exported, and more than 38,000 units were shipped in the first nine months of FY25.
The SUV is now being exported to Japan, Mexico, Australia, and South Africa. The Fronx SUV is also being exported to Japan from its Gujarat plant, with shipments routed through the Pipavav Port in the state.

Two-Wheelers And Commercial Vehicles Also Shine
India’s two-wheeler segment also posted a strong performance, with exports rising by 21 per cent. Shipments climbed from 34,58,416 units in FY24 to 41,98,403 units in FY25. Bajaj Auto, TVS, and Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India Ltd were the top performers in this space. SIAM credited the growth to the introduction of new models, expansion into new markets, and improving economic conditions in regions such as Africa and Latin America.
“New models and new markets have helped in expanding the footprint of two-wheeler exports,” SIAM noted. It also added that “economic stability in the African region and demand in Latin America have supported this growth.”
Hyundai Motor India, on the other hand, shipped 1,58,686 vehicles in FY25. The company continues to focus on positioning India as a strategic export base for emerging markets. “HMIL is strategically positioning itself as a manufacturing hub for emerging markets in Africa and neighbouring countries, addressing challenges in the Middle East and Latin America,” a company statement said. Notably, Hyundai’s i10 family crossed the 1.5 million export milestone, and the Verna model cumulatively surpassed 5,00,000 units.
In addition, three-wheeler exports grew modestly by 2 per cent, reaching 3,10,000 units, while commercial vehicle exports rose sharply by 23 per cent, from 65,818 units in FY24 to 80,986 units in FY25.
