Mumbai Police Crime Branch Arrests Man For Placing Bets On IPL Matches Using Illegal Website
Mumbai: The Crime Branch Unit 11 of Mumbai Police has arrested a man for placing bets on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The accused has been identified as Manikchand Kripashankar Maurya.
About The Case
According to police officials, Maurya was caught red-handed on Saturday night while placing bets on the IPL match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Lucknow Super Giants. He was using the illegal betting website www.universalsport24.com for the activity.
Based on a tip-off, the crime branch team launched a swift operation and apprehended the accused. During the arrest, police also seized the mobile phone used for placing the bets, which contained multiple screenshots linked to the betting activity.
Upon interrogation, Maurya revealed that the user ID and password used to access the betting website were provided to him by an individual named Devsingh. Police suspect that this may be part of a larger betting racket involving multiple individuals. Further investigation is underway by the Crime Branch Unit 11 to uncover the entire network involved in this illegal operation.
