Campus notes: Film on Guru Nanak Dev screened
Punjabi and history departments of Guru Nanak Girls College screened second episode of the documentary based on life and four Udasis of Guru Nanak Dev. This event was part of an ongoing series initiated under the guidance of the general secretary of the college governing body MS Sawhney, College Director Dr Varinder Gandhi and officiating principal Narinder Pal Kaur. The series conceptualised by Amardeep Singh consists of 24 episodes aimed at familiarising students with life, philosophy and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev. One episode of the series is screened at the college every Saturday to ensure a comprehensive understanding among students.
Nutritive food stall set up
Yamunanagar: On birth anniversary of Pandit Sant Nischal Singh Maharaj, founder of Guru Nanak Girls College, the department of food and nutrition set up a food stall of nutritive products.The students of BSc (Home Science) and MSc (Food and Nutrition) prepared and sold snacks like basket chaat, bhel chaat and desi ghee besan makhana ladoo. The general secretary of the college management committee, MS Sawhney, said these programmes were inspired by Sant Nischal Singh’s vision of girl empowerment. College director Dr Varinder Gandhi and principal Prof Narinder Pal Kaur said lauded contributions of Pandit Sant Nischal Singh Maharaj in the field of education.
Prawah cultural fest concludes
Mahendragarh: A two-day techno-cultural fest ‘Prawah’, organised at the Central University of Haryana (CUH), concluded on a vibrant note with a ‘kavi sammelan’ and prize-distribution ceremony. Organised jointly by the office of the Dean Students’ Welfare and the Coding Club of the department of computer science and information technology, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students. The ‘kavi sammelan’ featured renowned poets presenting compositions in various poetic genres, including humour, romance, satire and valour. Vice-Chancellor Prof Tankeshwar Kumar expressed gratitude to the poets, highlighting the event’s role in energizing and inspiring young minds. He commended the organizing team for curating a platform that fostered literary and artistic expression. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Pawan Kumar Sharma appreciated the poets for using their art to sensitively reflect on various topical social issues. Event convener Dr Sunil Baiflawat delivered an inspiring message on turning dreams into reality through perseverance. Dr Sunil, coordinator of the Coding Club, said coding challenges, treasure hunt, e-gaming, debates, and instrumental performances were organised as part of the event.
Professor’s achievements
Kurukshetra: Dr Kushal Pal, principal, Indira Gandhi National College Ladwa, Kurukshetra, has the distinction of becoming the professor of two prestigious colleges—Dyal Singh College, Karnal, and Indira Gandhi National College, since January 1, 2016. Before joining as the principal on July 25, 2023, Dr Pal worked as the head of the department of political science at Dyal Singh College. He completed his doctoral research on “Social, Economic and Political Ideas of Sir Chhotu Ram: A Study in Relevance”. As the state coordinator of Lokniti, he has been conducting national surveys for the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi, since 2009. He has edited two books, including one on democracy, and another on Sir Chhotu Ram.
