Kesari Kund declared prohibited zone after two students’ drowning

Champua: A day after two students drowned at Keshari Kund of Baitarani river on the fringes of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, the Keonjhar district administration has declared the spot located at Sarei village under Champua police limits as a prohibited zone Saturday.

Authorities have reportedly begun fencing the area to prevent public access to the site. Due to repeated drowning accidents at the site, Sub-Collector Umakant Parida declared the area a prohibited zone and instructed officials to install warning signage during his visit to the place Saturday.

The Sub-Collector directed Karanjia Revenue Inspector Chinmaya Mohanta to use a loudspeaker system to spread awareness and inform the public on the development. According to reports, Parida visited the mishap site with Champua police IIC Debaki Nayak, tehsildar Sajat Marke, Assistant Collector Samarendra Das, and Champua RI Sampad Pradhan.

Local resident Dasharu Nayak, who helped recover the bodies, was commended for his efforts. Officials interacted with him to understand how the incident unfolded.
