India’s first engine-less high-speed train, more luxurious than Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, runs from…, name is…
The Indian Railways, which is one of the largest rail networks in the world, is continuously upgrading itself to provide the best possible comfort and travel experience to its customers. The Railways achieved a milestone and created history in 2019 by introducing India’s first engine-less high-speed train, called the Vande Bharat Express. The train was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2019, from New Delhi, and it continues to run to this date. The Vande Bharat Express is a multiple-unit chair car train which is designed and developed indigenously by the Indian Railways.
Vande Bharat Train: Top Speed
Vande Bharat trains are one of the fastest trains in India and can run at a speed of 160 km/h. However, the train is capable of running 180+ and achieved a top speed of 183 km/h in its trial runs but due to tracks’ inability its speed has been reduced. Railways introduced a redesigned saffron and grey colour scheme for its new Vande Bharat Express trains in July 2023. Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw also highlighted twenty-five upgrades to the trains, which now include anti-climbing features.
Talking about its routes, there are more than 61 Vande Bharat trains (August 31, 2024 data) running on major routes of the country.
Vande Bharat Train: Special Features
Vande Bharat trains offer passengers a significantly improved travel experience. These trains boast modern, safe carriages equipped with advanced features such as automatic doors, ergonomic reclining seats, and executive-class seating with rotating chairs, promising increased comfort and a smoother journey.
These high-speed trains are now equipped with a bottle cooler, a deep freezer, a mini kitchenette that has a hot case for warming food, and a boiler for hot water needs. Not only that, Vande Bharat trains are also loaded with high-tech security features such as HQ CCTV cameras in every coach, the KAVACH system, etc.
