Senior Deputy Mayor leads cleanliness drive at Darbar Sahib
Despite it being a public holiday on account of the birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur and Good Friday, Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma led a special cleanliness drive in the vicinity of Darbar Sahib. The drive was initiated by the Municipal Corporation.
Before kickstarting the drive, Priyanka Sharma held a briefing for sanitation workers at the Heritage Street, where she emphasised upon the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the area, especially during religious events which draw a large number of devotees. She encouraged the workers to carry out their duties diligently and with devotion.
Following the meeting, the Senior Deputy Mayor paid her respects at Darbar Sahib, seeking blessings from the Almighty and offering prayers for the well-being of all. Speaking to the media, Priyanka Sharma highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of the Golden Temple, noting that it attracts lakhs of devotees and tourists from over India and abroad each day.
“The MC is committed to ensuring that visitors not only get to visit the gurdwara but also take back positive and lasting memories of a clean and welcoming city,” Priyanka Sharma said.
She acknowledged the efforts of local NGOs which regularly volunteer to undertake sanitation work along the Heritage Street. She also assured that the Municipal Corporation’s team is leaving no stone unturned to maintain hygiene in the inner city and other prominent areas of Amritsar.
Reaffirming the civic body’s dedication, she stated that cleanliness of the city is not just the responsibility of the administration, but a duty of every resident. “If we want to build a better society, we must start from our homes. Citizens must refrain from littering and instead use the garbage collection vehicles that regularly service almost every street and neighbourhood,” she appealed. Also present were AAP leaders, Ritesh Sharma and Visakha Singh.
