Ironman Col Jangvir Lamba pushes limits at Taiwan Triathlon

Ironman Colonel Jangvir Lamba, a fourth-generation serving officer in the Indian Army, has etched his legacy at the prestigious IRONMAN 140.6 Triathlon held in Penghu, Taiwan.

Competing in the 50–54 age category, the 53-year-old officer completed the gruelling challenge — comprising a 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycling and a 42.2 km marathon — in an impressive 14 hours, 53 minutes and 34 seconds. The Ironman Triathlon is widely regarded as one of the toughest endurance events globally, testing physical stamina, mental strength and unwavering determination.

Col Lamba now officially holds the title of Ironman triathlete, marking his place among an elite group of global endurance athletes. His sporting journey has included numerous high-endurance events such as the Ironman 70.3 in Goa (November 2022) and the Asia Pacific Championship in Cairns, Australia (June 2023), which he completed in 15 hours and 24 minutes.

In October 2023, Col Lamba took part in the Ironman Malaysia (Langkawi), successfully completing the full-distance triathlon — 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km run — in 16 hours and 41 minutes.

Demonstrating exceptional grit, he also participated in and completed the legendary 38th Marathon des Sables in April 2024 — a punishing 253.5 km multi-stage ultramarathon across the Moroccan Sahara Desert, often dubbed the “toughest foot race on earth.”

A fourth-generation Army officer, Col Lamba is also a former professional bodybuilder and a national-level bodybuilding judge. His accomplishments in endurance sports stand as a shining example of self-discipline, resilience and the unyielding spirit of the Indian Armed Forces.
