Woman kills mother-in-law after argument over items
A tragic incident of domestic violence has rocked the Majra police station area of Sirmaur district, where an elderly woman was allegedly killed by her daughter-in-law following a heated argument over household items.
The victim, identified as Bano Devi, reportedly died on the spot after a violent assault by her elder daughter-in-law, Bokdi Devi, in the Bangala Basti area of Jagatpur under the jurisdiction of the Puruwala post office.
According to police sources, the incident came to light when two local residents, Gulnaz and Sadiqa, informed the Majra police about the assault. Acting on the information, a police team reached the scene and recorded statements from eyewitnesses, including Manisha, wife of Tara Chand, and a resident of Patthar Bangala Basti, Surajpur.
Manisha recounted that the incident occurred late Friday evening. She said Bano Devi was sitting outside her hut on an iron cot when Bokdi approached her, accusing her of taking a parat (metal utensil) from her home. Bano Devi replied that the utensil belonged to her younger daughter-in-law. The argument quickly escalated when Bokdi also claimed ownership of the cot, which Bano Devi said had been gifted to her by her son.
In a sudden outburst of rage, Bokdi allegedly grabbed Bano Devi by the hair and slammed her head against the iron edge of the cot. As Bano Devi collapsed face-down, Bokdi reportedly continued the assault by punching her in the neck and back.
Paonta Sahib DSP Manvendra Thakur confirmed the incident. “The body was taken into custody and handed over to the family after the postmortem on Saturday,” he said. A murder case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a detailed investigation is currently underway.
