Fake cop held for looting truckers

The Baddi police have arrested a man for impersonating a police officer and looting truck drivers in the industrial town. The accused, identified as Rajveer Singh, alias Harman (36), a resident of Malwa village in Ambala, was nabbed from the Marrawala area of Kalka, which borders Barotiwala.

Rajveer is the second person arrested in connection with a case registered on April 10, following a complaint by Dharamveer, a truck driver from Nyagal village in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district. According to the FIR, the incident occurred on the night of April 8 while Dharamveer was asleep in his parked truck at Thana village. Two men dressed in police uniforms forcibly pulled him out, assaulted him and took him away in their vehicle. They snatched his mobile phone and Rs 10,000 and also transferred Rs 30,500 from his account.

Acting on his complaint, the Baddi police registered a case under Sections 308(2), 127(2), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for extortion and wrongful confinement.

Baddi SP Vinod Dhiman confirmed the arrest and stated that a detailed investigation is underway.

The case highlights a disturbing trend of youth resorting to crime in search of quick money. The accused reportedly exploited the perception that truck drivers are often harassed by police in certain areas, making it easier for them to pose as officers and loot unsuspecting drivers. Encouraged by previous successful attempts, the duo had reportedly pulled off similar acts at least three times before being caught.
