Bhiwani residents protest against contaminated water supply
Residents of Taiyan Pana in Ward No. 7 of Bhiwani town have been facing serious health issues due to contaminated drinking water supply and blocked sewerage for the last several days. Residents alleged that muddy water was being supplied to households from which foul-smell emanated. They said stench entered their homes as streets were also filled with muddy water.
“Despite the worsening conditions, the district administration and the Municipal Council have taken no concrete steps to address the problems,” they alleged.
Frustrated over lack of action by the authorities concerned, residents held a protest at the Rohtak gate today. They raised slogans against the MC authorities , while demanding immediate clean water supply and proper maintenance of sewerage.
A local resident Azad Singh Dhanda said, “The scorching summer heat increases the risk of diarrhoea and other waterborne diseases as the water supply is muddy and contaminated.”
He alleged that households were receiving water contaminated with sewage, which was raising health issues, including stomach and skin infections, among residents.
Other residents, including Mahender Singh Parmar, Sunita, Kuldeep, Shakuntala, Kamla, Sonu, Beermati, Satbir, and Pappu, echoed similar concerns. They maintained that the contaminated water had affected children, who were falling ill and were unable to attend school. “Families are now entirely dependent on bottled water for drinking,” they said.
Residents also expressed anger over inflated water bills, while they were receiving contaminated supply. “Multiple complaints have been filed both online and offline in this regard, but no action has been taken so far,” they said. The protesters warned that if the authorities failed to resolve the issues soon, they would be left with no other option, but to intensify their agitation.
