After massive fire, administration starts loss assessment in K’shetra
After the massive fire incidents reported at several villages in Kurukshetra, the district administration has started a loss assessment survey to compensate farmers.
Fire incidents were reported from various villages, including Diwana, Mangna, Chanderbhan Pura, Jyotisar, Khaspur, Dyalpur, Samsipur, Thana, Helwa and Lohar Majra. Besides agricultural fields, the fire caused damage to some deras and residential areas near the fields.
Dry fodder, crop residue, tractor trailers, agricultural machines, sheds and a number of coolers in a house were gutted. A newly constructed house was also destroyed.
Rameshwar, a farmer from Khaspur village, said he had taken 4 acres on lease for farming and his standing wheat crop had been burnt, causing him heavy losses.
Gurnam Singh, a farmer, said, “The fire had reached our house and we managed to save ourselves somehow. A buffalo and calf we purchased recently were killed. We have suffered heavy losses, and request the government to provide some relief.”
After getting information, politicians also visited the affected areas.
Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora visited Chanderbhan Pura last night to take stock of the situation and assured the victims of all possible help.
Similarly, BJP leader and former MLA Subhash Sudha visited the affected villages in Thanesar block and said, “The government is with the farmers in these testing times and we have assured them that efforts will be made to provide them adequate compensation.”
Pehowa MLA Mandeep Chatha, said, “Diwana, Mangna and Thana villages of Pehowa were the worst affected. About 10 acres of wheat crop was gutted. There is loss of property as well. Two persons have suffered minor burns. The fire department did a good job in containing the fire. We will take up the matter with the government and ensure that those who have suffered losses get adequate compensation.”
Deputy Director Agriculture Karam Chand said, “About 57 acres of wheat crop of 34 farmers was gutted. The crop loss is about Rs 32 Lakh.”
