Songs are one of the most important parts of the cinema industry. Not just that, songs are often loved by people as they not only uplift the mood but also fill the environment with happiness. However, what if we tell you that there is a song that has allegedly taken 100 people’s lives as well? Yes, while you may find this absurd, today we will tell you about such a song.

In 1933, a Hungarian musician named Rezso Seress wrote a song called ‘Gloomy Sunday’. Rezso wrote the song for his girlfriend who left him. The lyrics of the song were extremely depressing that whosoever heard it was irked to commit suicide. This was the reason why it was named ‘Hungarian Suicide Song’.

Initially, many people refused to record this song. However, later in 1935, the song was recorded and released. As soon as it was released, numerous people started to die. As per a report by Zee News, after listening to the song, the number of suicides started to increase in Hungary. In many cases, the song was found playing next to the body.

According to reports, initially, about 17 people had lost their lives due to this song. Later, this number reached close to 100. The situation worsened so much that in the year 1941, the government had to ban the song.

After 62 years, in the year 2003, the ban was lifted from the song. However, by then, many lives were lost. The most surprising thing is that Rezso Seress also chose the same day for his death, which was mentioned in the song—Sunday.

First, he tried to commit suicide by jumping from the window, but after going to the hospital, he killed himself by strangulating himself with a wire.

Despite this, the song was sung by more than 100 singers in 28 languages.
