In February 2025, the Ministry of Railways announced the roll out of about nine Vande Bharat sleeper trains between April to December. Till now, the prime trains ran on short routes that furnished the passenger with chair cars only. Developed by BEML with ICF (Integral Coach Factory) technology, the Vande Bharat sleeper train will run on several routes and few of them have been tested as well. Vande Bharat sleeper train achieved a peak speed of 180 km per hour during its trials in January this year.

One of the routes will be New Delhi to Howrah as per ET Now report. This will be a third premium train to run on the route after Duronto Express and Rajdhani Express. The train is set to cover a distance of about 1449 km in less than 15 hours.

These orange and black coloured sleeper trains are fashioned to run at a speed of 160 kmph so far. New Delhi to Howrah Vande Bharat sleeper train may have the following stoppages as per ET Now -Kanpur Central, Prayagraj Junction, DD Upadhyaya Junction, Gaya Junction, Dhanbad Junction, and Asansol Junction.

A look inside the Vande Bharat sleeper trains

The 16 coach train is set to have 11 AC 3 Tier coaches, 4 AC 2 Tier coaches, and 1 First Class AC coach. The fare of the premium rains may start from Rs 3000 and lead up to Rs 5100. Passengers travelling on an AC 3-tier coach may have to pay around  around Rs 3000, an AC 2-tier coach would be around Rs 4000, and an AC First Class is expected to be around Rs 5100. It is expected to depart from the New Delhi Railway Station around 17:00 hrs and to reach Howrah Junction at 08:00 hrs.

These trains are designed to offer safe and comfortable travel . Reportedly, the train has crash buffers, deformation tubes, and a fire barrier wall, automatic doors, cushioned berths, and onboard Wi-Fi besides ultra comfortable berths and an aircraft-like design.
