Jos Buttler 97 not out powers GT to a dominant win over DC

New Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a dominant chase to defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 7 wickets in the 35th match of the IPL 2025, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Chasing a challenging target of 204, GT reached the total with four balls to spare, riding on a stunning unbeaten knock from Jos Buttler and crucial contributions from the top order.

DC Post Competitive 203, Thanks to Collective Batting

Batting first, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive total of 203/8 in 20 overs, led by short but impactful knocks from multiple batters. Abishek Porel (18 off 9), Karun Nair (31 off 18), and Rahul (28 off 14) gave DC a solid start in the powerplay, racing to 67/1 in the first six overs.

Skipper Axar Patel continued the momentum with a steady 39 off 32 balls, while Tristan Stubbs (31 off 21) and Ashutosh Sharma (37 off 19) added valuable runs in the middle and death overs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, DC’s aggressive approach paid off as they crossed the 200-run mark.

The standout bowler for GT was Prasidh Krishna, who took 4 wickets for 41 runs, including crucial breakthroughs like Rahul, Nair, and Axar. Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan also chipped in with a wicket apiece, while Rashid Khan was economical despite going wicketless.

GT Start Positively, Buttler Anchors the Chase

In reply, Gujarat Titans lost Shubman Gill early (7 off 5), run out by a direct hit from Karun Nair. But Sai Sudharsan looked fluent in his short stay, scoring 36 off 21 before falling to Kuldeep Yadav.

The turning point, however, was the partnership between Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford. Buttler led the charge with a match-winning unbeaten 97 off just 54 balls, laced with 11 fours and 4 sixes, maintaining a blazing strike rate of 179.63. Rutherford chipped in with 43 off 34, stabilizing the chase during the middle overs.

The pair added a 119-run stand for the third wicket and virtually sealed the game before Rutherford fell to Mukesh Kumar. Rahul Tewatia then walked in and helped Buttler finish the job calmly.

Capitals Bowlers Struggle to Contain Titans

DC’s bowling lacked bite, with no bowler managing to keep things tight for long. Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel picked up one wicket each, but were expensive. Notably, Vipraj Nigam went for 34 runs in his 4 overs without a wicket.

With this win, GT continue to build momentum in IPL 2025, while DC are left to rue a few missed chances in the field and with the ball.
