Manipur woman, 20, dies by suicide in Delhi
A 20-year-old woman hailing from Manipur, who was allegedly depressed, died by suicide after she jumped off the terrace of her building in southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area, a senior police officer said on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Priyaluxmi Devi Khangebam, had been residing in Delhi since October last year and working at a BPO company in Noida.
Sharing details, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh said they received a PCR call at Sunlight Colony police station reporting a body near Maharani Park, close to Gupta Store.
“The deceased Priyaluxmi had been living in Delhi since October 2024 on the 3rd floor of a residential building in Kilokari along with her roommate, Marina. Both worked at Energizer, a BPO company in Noida," the DCP said.0
He said that the victim woman’s roommate confirmed her employment and residence details.
“The CCTV footage from the roof of the building showed her walking alone and jumping off, indicating a case of suicide. CCTV footage has been secured for further investigation," the officer said.
A forensic team of the Delhi Police was called which checked their flat and found a suicide note on the deceased woman’s mobile phone.
“It revealed her deep emotional distress, self-doubt, and mental exhaustion. She expressed feelings of failure, isolation, and lack of purpose," the officer said.
Meanwhile, the police have informed the deceased woman’s family while her body has been preserved at the AIIMS mortuary. The postmortem will be conducted in the presence of the family members, the officer added.
