Two Bowlers, One Record: Most Expensive Over In IPL History
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), batters often dominate bowlers, and IPL 2025 has been no exception. While sixes fly and scores soar, some bowlers end up creating unwanted records.
One such record is conceding the most runs in a single over — and surprisingly, two bowlers share this infamous feat, both having been hit for 37 runs in one over. Even more surprising, one of them has won the Purple Cap twice.
Two Bowlers, One Record
Prashanth Parameswaran and Harshal Patel hold the record for conceding the most runs in a single over in IPL history — 37 runs each. This kind of over can shift the momentum of a match in seconds.
Prashanth Parameswaran – IPL 2011
In a 2011 clash between RCB and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Parameswaran was smashed by Chris Gayle. Gayle scored 37 in a seven-ball over (4 sixes 3 fours + 1 no ball). The over became one of the most expensive in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Harshal Patel – IPL 2021
Despite being known as a death-overs specialist and a two-time Purple Cap winner, Harshal Patel too faced a nightmare over. In 2021, during a match between RCB and CSK, Ravindra Jadeja unleashed a brutal assault, scoring 6, 6, 6, 6, 2, 6, 4 — again, with the help of a no-ball — to notch up 37 runs off one over.
Other Bowlers on the List
Daniel Sams: 35 runs conceded in one over by Pat Cummins (KKR vs MI, IPL 2022)
Parvinder Awana: Suffered 33 runs in an over from Suresh Raina (IPL 2014)
Ravi Bopara: Gave away 33 runs in an over to Manoj Tiwary and Chris Gayle (IPL 2010)
These records reflect the brutal nature of T20 cricket, where even the best bowlers can be at the receiving end of unforgettable onslaughts.
