GST Registration: CBIC has issued instructions to remove the difficulties faced by businessmen in GST registration. CBIC has said that officers will not unnecessarily delay the process by asking for copies of original documents for registration.

New Delhi. Now the officers cannot delay the work of GST registration by saying sometimes bring this document, sometimes submit that paper. The government has issued a direct order regarding this. It has been clearly stated that the officers should not delay the work by asking for papers and should not consider any such paper necessary for registration.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said on Friday that companies can get GST registration within 7 days. Also, applications for risky businesses will be approved within 30 days after physical verification. This is the reason why the government has now prepared a deadline for GST registration.

Complaints were received against the officers

CBIC said that the investigation has revealed that some officers working in many areas are asking for improper documents for registration by raising various questions. In view of this, CBIC has also given an indicative list of documents, which officers can ask for online from the companies. After this, the process of registration will have to be completed quickly.

Do not delay work for original documents

CBIC’s revised instructions for GST registration state that while scrutinizing the registration application, officers should not raise questions by asking for the original physical copy of these documents, nor should they delay registration. CBIC said that it has received complaints about difficulties in obtaining GST registration. Most of these complaints are related to the nature of clarifications being sought by the officers and the demand for additional documents.

One document will do the job

According to the revised instructions, the applicant has to upload any one document regarding the main place of business (PPOB). The latest property tax receipt or municipal account or copy of the owner’s electricity bill or any other government document such as water bill which states the ownership of the property will be sufficient. In cases where the premises are rented, the applicant has to upload a valid rent/lease agreement along with any one document related to PPOB. The order also said that no additional documents like Udyam Certificate, MSME Certificate, Shop Establishment Certificate, Trade License should be sought from the applicant. The officers scrutinizing the registration applications should not ask any probing questions related to the documents or information submitted by the applicant.
