“Yemen will not back down”: Houthis vow to continue attacks, refuse to back down after US airstrikes kill 74
Sanaa: Yemen’s Houthi rebels have pledged to continue their attacks and refused to back down against Israel and the United States after a deadly U.S. airstrike killed 74 people at the Ras Isa oil port, CNN reported. “Yemen will not back down from continuing its support operations for the Palestinian people until the Israeli aggression on Gaza stops and the siege is lifted,” the Houthi-controlled armed forces statement read.
Houthis also warned that America’s aggression will lead to further engagement and confrontation.”
US airstrikes in Yemen on Thursday resulted in a high death toll, with at least 74 fatalities and 171 injuries reported by Al Jazeera. CENTCOM justified the strikes as a measure to disrupt Houthi fuel and revenue streams, aiming to weaken the Iran-backed group’s economic capabilities.
In a post on social media on Thursday, CENTCOM said, “Today, US forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists. The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis.”
The US has been carrying out airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen since mid-march, targeting their oil refineries, airports and missile sites.
US President Donald Trump had vowed to use “overwhelming force” until Washington achieves its goal of stopping the Houthis from targeting shipping in the Red Sea.
A report from Hodeidah’s health office indicates that a US military strike on Ras Isa port resulted in at least 38 deaths and approximately 102 injuries.
Following the October 7, 2023, attacks in Gaza, the Houthis in Yemen have reportedly launched multiple missile attacks against Israel and interfered with Red Sea shipping. They claim these actions are in support of Palestinians.
