The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is nearing completion, and China has announced plans to open it to the public in June, The Metro reported. The 2-mile-long mega structure is expected to reduce travel time from an hour to just a minute. Standing tall at 200 meters, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is taller and heavier than France’s Eiffel Tower. The cost of the bridge is estimated at around £216 million (Rs 2,200 crore).

According to Chinese politician Zhang Shenglin, this mega project will showcase China’s engineering capabilities to the world. “This super project spanning the ‘Earth’s crack’ will showcase China’s engineering capabilities and boost Guizhou’s goal of becoming a world-class tourist d Chinese politician Zhang Shenglin estination,” he said.

The structure’s steel framework, weighing approximately 22,000 metric tons (three times the weight of the Eiffel Tower), was erected within a two-month period.

“Witnessing my work become something tangible – watching the bridge grow day by day and finally stand tall above the canyon – gives me a profound sense of achievement and pride,” Chief Engineer Li Zhao said.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, a testament to the Dragon’s engineering capabilities, is going to boost both transportation and tourism in a remote Chinese region. Its striking design and dramatic location are expected to attract significant numbers of visitors, complementing the bridge’s practical function of connecting rural communities. This project highlights China’s leading role in bridge construction, with the country hosting a substantial portion of the world’s tallest bridges.

It is worth mentioning that the Dragon built its highest bridge in 2016 in Beipanjiang. It stands tall at an impressive 1,854 feet.
