State to celebrate heritage day with focus on monuments, tourism

Haryana Tourism Corporation will mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites with grand celebrations, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and promoting the state’s cultural heritage. This year’s theme underscores the importance of protecting monuments for future generations — a goal Haryana Tourism continues to pursue across the state.

Among the key heritage sites, Pinjore Gardens (Yadavindra Gardens) stands out as a jewel of Mughal architecture. Located just 22 km from Chandigarh and built in the 17th century by Nawab Fidai Khan, the garden boasts terraced lawns, fountains, and historic pavilions. Adjacent to it is the Bhima Devi Museum, blending archaeological treasures with natural beauty.

Haryana Tourism has begun promoting Pinjore Gardens as a heritage wedding destination, offering a royal setting for celebrations. Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, significant upgrades are underway, including improved parking, public amenities, and garden rejuvenation. Plans are also in motion to host music festivals, the Mango Mela, and Baisakhi celebrations to raise public awareness and aid conservation efforts.

Another iconic site is the Raja Nahar Singh Palace in Ballabgarh, which commemorates the 1857 freedom fighter. Currently functioning as a heritage hotel and cultural venue, the palace is being developed further for weddings and cultural events, with stakeholder collaboration and public input for better management.

Haryana Tourism is also working to develop Madhogarh Fort in Mahendragarh as a major tourist attraction. The fort, showcasing Rajput and Maratha architecture, offers a deep dive into regional history.

In addition to heritage promotion, Haryana is boosting adventure tourism at destinations like Hathnikund and Tikkar Tal, providing diverse experiences for tourists.
