23-yr-old student ‘stalked’ by rent broker
A 23-year-old student enrolled in a bachelors of design (gaming and animation) course was allegedly stalked by a rent broker, who insulted her modesty by sending her obscene messages. The broker threatened her over phone, and tried to kill her, she alleged.
An FIR has been registered at the Sohna city police station in this regard.
A complaint was filed by the victim, a native of Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, in Uttar Pradesh, who is a fourth-semester student of a bachelors of design (gaming and animation) course at a private university near Sohna.
She said she lived in an apartment in Sohna, which she has leased in September 2023 through a broker, Lokesh Saini, a resident of Sohna Dhani.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that the accused, Lokesh Saini, had been acting suspicious with her ever since she had leased the flat through him.
He used to call and message her without a reason, she claimed, adding that he often called her and talk to her in an obscene manner in the evenings after drinking alcohol.
She claimed that he had entered her house without her consent many times, and had even tried to molest her.
He had even attempted to block her way while she was on her way to her university, she added.
“On December 27 last year, he harassed me by sending obscene messages and voice notes after consuming alcohol. On April 5, when I was returning to my flat from my university on my motorcycle, Lokesh tried to hit my motorcycle with his Wagon-R car near the Sohna Dhani turn, but I narrowly escaped. After this, he stopped his car and shouted at me that I could not belong to anyone else except him and he would defame me. Because of Lokesh Saini, I am in deep shock and even not able to study properly. My life and dignity are in danger,” the student said in her complaint.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against Lokesh Saini under sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 78(I)1 (stalking), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 79 (insult to a woman’s modesty) of the BNS at the Sohna city police station on Thursday.
“On the complaint of the student, an FIR has been registered and we are conducting raids to nab the accused. The accused will be arrested soon”, said Inspector Praveen Malik, SHO of the Sohna city police station.
