Addressing media persons here regarding the National Herald case, the Congress MP said that entire leadership of the BJP has been out on a mission to “defame” and “discredit” the senior leadership of the Congress party, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and their family members, for an issue which is entirely “made-up” as according to him, there are no evidence of money laundering or simply transfer of money from one person’s account to the other’s in this “unique case”.
“There has been no evidence of money being laundered in this case. Neither the money has been transferred nor withdrawn but still our leaders are being harassed by the investigation agencies,” he said.
The AICC General Secretary said that every year, BJP raises this issue for their vested interests and political benefits “but the Congress party won’t cow down by their ill-designs and continue to fight them defiantly.”
According to the Congress MP, BJP has been deliberately raking up the issue of National Herald because the party was on a back foot on issues like Waqf Bill, unemployment, rising poverty, falling price of the dollar, and tariffs being imposed by the US President Donald Trump.
“To hide their failures, they have started targeting and harassing the senior Congress leadership through the investigation agencies,” Dr Syed Naseer Hussain said.
He reminded the BJP leadership that Congress had fought even the Britishers without any fears during the National freedom movement and as such, the party doesn’t fear the use of agencies to silent their leadership.
The AICC General Secretary added that whatever questions or apprehensions were raised by the party leadership regarding the Waqf Act in the Parliament have been raised by the Apex Court as well.
“This validated our stance against the BJP’s misuse of the power,” he said.
Speaking about the UT specific issues, Hussain said that the party legislators have adequately raised the issues related to the bungling and scams in various departments under the LG rule.
“They have also demanded that the statehood be restored at the earliest. Our national leadership has also time and again asked this question to the Prime Minister and Home Minister why they are not restoring the Statehood despite promising it several times.”
He said that his party has also advocated for granting special land and job provisions like they are granted in other states like Himachal Pradesh and the North Eastern States.
“We will continue to press the Union Government with similar force to get the Statehood back with special provisions for the locals,” he said. The AICC General Secretary also took on heavily on the BJP leadership for their normalcy claim in the J&K, claiming, “If militancy, as they say, is down, why security forces and the people of the region are being targeted continuously?”
“Our soldiers are being martyred and injured with civilians also facing the brunt of militancy. The BJP has to answer why this is happening if there is normalcy in the region.”
