‘Porn addict’ technician arrested in air hostess assault case

The police on Friday arrested a technician accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a 46-year-old air hostess at Medanta Hospital. The accused had been working in the hospital for the past five months.

According to the police, the accused was identified and arrested after examining the footage from 800 CCTV cameras, interrogating hospital staff and investigating various facts.

The accused has been identified as 25-year-old Deepak, a native of Badhauli village in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, and presently living in Gurugram.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that he was unmarried and addicted to porn videos. After pursuing a BSc, OTT (Operation Theatre Technology) course, he joined Medanta as a technician.

According to a police spokesperson, initial interrogation revealed that he had been working as a treatment machine technician in the ICU for the past five months. The accused will be produced before the court tomorrow.

“A special investigation team (SIT), formed to probe the case, visited the hospital yesterday. More than 50 employees and some doctors were questioned, and over 800 CCTV cameras were examined. After multiple analysis on the micro level, with the help of human and technical intelligence, we finally identified the accused and arrested him from Sadar police station area today. The accused confessed to the crime,” said Dr Arpit Jain, DCP (Headquarters), and head of the SIT.

The air hostess, who was admitted to the hospital on April 5, was allegedly assaulted while on a ventilator in the ICU. She had claimed that two nurses were present in the room, but did nothing to stop the incident.

“On April 6, I was on a ventilator when a hospital staff member sexually assaulted me," she stated in her complaint. After being discharged on April 13, she told her husband about it, and lodged a complaint at Sadar police station. A case was registered under Sections 64 (rape) and 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority) of the BNS.

Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora had formed the SIT, led by the DCP (Headquarters), on Thursday.
