Garhshankar, April 18
Around 15 “angs” of Guru Granth Sahib were found torn inside a gurdwara at Noorpur Jattan village in Garhshankar.
Former Sarpanch Jarnail Singh, who runs a dairy, said he went to the gurdwara to pay obeisance and found the main gate locked.
In the meantime, gurdwara committee president Avtar Singh and Granthi Tahal Singh also reached there.
He said as they went inside, they saw desecrated “angs” of Guru Granth Sahib.
As CCTV cameras installed in the gurdwara were non-operational, Garhshankar DSP Jaspreet Singh said they were analysing CCTV footage of the surrounding area.
A case has been registered against unidentified persons.

Amritsar: The officiating Jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, has ordered dismissal of the Granthi of the gurdwara concerned and entire management committee until the investigation was completed. He summoned them to the Akal Takht.
Jathedar Gargaj urged the Punjab Government and the police administration to trace the persons behind the incident and ensure strict punishment to them.
Condemning the incident, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said, “Ideally, there should be only one gurdwara in a village. The entire Sikh Sangat should come together and manage the gurdwara affairs.” He said three holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib had been shifted to Gurdwara Sri Mahilpur Shaheedan Ladhewal in Hoshiarpur till proper arrangements were made at the Noorpur Jattan gurdwara. — TNS
