Kamal Haasan - Mani Ratnam combo’s much-awaited 'Thug Life' is all set to hit the screens on June 5.
‘Thug Life’, the most anticipated Tamil film of 2025, marks the coming together of the two legends of Tamil cinema for the first time after 1987. The combo, like in 'Nayakan', is expected to deliver yet another classic.
“'Thug Life' is the kind of cinema I would like to see. I am glad that I got to act and produce it. It has been done with a lot of love for a discerning audience,” Kamal Haasan said during a media briefing after launching the film’s first single ‘Jinguchaa’.
With music by Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman, Jinguchaa, is a foot tapper. The song sets a perfect vibe with pulsating beats and catchy lyrics. Clad in a navy blue Sherwani, Kamal looks young and vibrant. Crooned by Vaishali Samant, Sakthishree Gopalan and Aditya R.K, Jinguchaa has gone viral on social media.
Pointing out that 'Thug Life' is the first Mani Ratnam movie with Raaj Kamal productions, Kamal said that it is their fault for not coming together after 'Nayakan'. “It's our fault waiting for so long to come together. We were in search of better scripts. It took this long for us. We should have collaborated earlier.”
Commenting on Mani Ratnam’s working style and how he begins working at 5.30 am he said that gets reminded of legendary Tamil director and his guru K. Balachander. “When I see Mani Ratnam's way of working I get reminded of my guru. He knows what a huge compliment this is,” Kamal said.
Talking about the two heroines in the movie, he said, neither Abhirami nor Trisha Krishnan says ‘I Love You’ to him throughout the entire course of the film. “It was Joju George who said "I love you, sir" to me every day during shoots. I consoled myself that at least Joju said those words to me,” he said jokingly.
After his 'Indian 2' flopped in the box office, Kamal has come up with a quick lineup of movies this year with 'Indian 3', 'Kalki 2' and 'Thug Life'. Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Nasser are all part of 'Thug Life' -- an action drama. The film, going by the teaser released, is expected to be an intense narrative woven around crime, loyalty and power.
