Haryana chief secretary chairs 10th narco-panel meet, emphasises stricter anti-drug measures
Haryana chief secretary Anurag Rastogi chaired the 10th state-level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee meeting on Friday to evaluate and strengthen the state’s efforts in combating drug-related crimes. Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police attended the meeting via videoconferencing.
During the meeting, Rastogi directed all Deputy Commissioners to inspect de-addiction centres across the state and submit detailed compliance reports by April 22, 2025. He emphasised that these inspections should focus on ensuring accountability, operational efficiency, and better rehabilitation outcomes for those battling addiction.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr Sumita Misra instructed that inspections should identify both deficiencies and improvements, while offering actionable recommendations to elevate the quality of services provided by the centres.
Rastogi also directed the Food and Drug Administration to enforce stricter regulations on chemist shops across the state. All chemists must install CCTV cameras and prominently display their licences. He further ordered awareness programs to sensitise chemists about the legal consequences of violating drug laws.
Rastogi also proposed expanding the role of Prahari Clubs, which are designed to create awareness on drug abuse among students. He suggested that these clubs should include parents of addicted youth along with teachers, to establish a more supportive environment for counselling.
Dr Misra also announced the launch of a new authority, SANKALP (Substance Abuse and Narcotics Knowledge, Awareness and Liberation Program), initiated by CM Nayab Singh Saini. This authority is designed to protect the youth through comprehensive awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation support, ensuring a drug-free future for the state.
