Cops attacked in drug raid in Gidderbaha; ASI among 2 injured
Two police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were allegedly attacked on Thursday evening when they went to search for drugs in the shanties along Bharu Road in Gidderbaha town.
The injured were identified as ASI Raj Bahadur and constable Jaspreet, who are currently admitted to the Gidderbaha Civil Hospital.
The injured cops informed that they had got a tip-off and had gone to the area to investigate possible drug-related activity under the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (war against drugs) campaign.
“However, the situation turned violent as some residents, including men and women, assaulted us. Later, we informed the senior officers about this incident,” said ASI Raj Bahadur.
Gidderbaha DSP Avtar Singh said today, “The attackers allegedly used sticks, stones, and bricks to assault the cops. A case under relevant sections has been registered at Gidderbaha police station. The cops were trying to carry out a search operation when this unfortunate incident happened. Four persons, including two women, have been booked and efforts are afoot to arrest them.”
