Sources say that the state government may request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate this final phase during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai on May 1.
Why is Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg special
Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is a state-of-the-art expressway built between Nagpur and Mumbai. It is noteworthy that it is also known as Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg. This expressway project was first conceived by former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to improve high-speed connectivity between Mumbai and Nagpur.
What is the route
The Mumbai-Nagpur Samridhi Expressway starts from Shivmadka village in Nagpur and ends in Thane district adjacent to Mumbai. This highway passes through 10 districts of Maharashtra – Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Jalna, Aurangabad (now Sambhajinagar), Nashik, Ahmednagar and Thane:
6 lanes, expansion up to 8 lanes possible
The Mumbai-Nagpur Samridhi Expressway has been built in 6 lanes but it is possible to expand it to 8 lanes in future. The maximum speed of vehicles on this expressway will be 120 km/h. A total of 6 tunnels have been built on this expressway. The longest tunnel among these is located at Kasara Ghat, which is a twin tunnel. Apart from this, 33 big bridges and 274 small bridges have been built.
Apart from this, all modern facilities like CCTV surveillance, emergency helpline and rest area have been developed on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samridhi Expressway. The good thing is that EV charging stations are also being built on the expressway.
The first phase of this expressway (from Nagpur to Shirdi) was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2022. Now the last phase from Igatpuri to Amane is about to start.
