VIDEOS: Mumbai-Pune Expressway At Standstill As Long Weekend Traffic Builds Up
Travelers planning to enjoy their long weekend encountered familiar challenges of heavy traffic congestion on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Thursday.
On Thursday, a massive traffic jam was reported on the Pune lane of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, stretching up to seven to eight kilometers in Khandala Ghat section.
The congestion, which began early Thursday morning, is being attributed to the long weekend rush, with drivers stuck in long queues and facing significant delays.
Despite the presence of highway police, the situation has not improved, and traffic movement remains slow.
Commuters are enduring severe hardships, with many vehicles barely moving.
Few commuters took to social media to raise the issues. "After paying 320 rs toll, standing still on Mumbai pune expressway way since 30 mins and counting," wrote a user named Unnat Chauhan.
Same situation in every holiday season
Meanwhile, the authorities are urging drivers to exercise patience, but the ongoing traffic snarls are causing major inconvenience for travelers heading towards Pune.
During every holiday season, the expressway gets jammed towards Pune as it serves as one of the only roads leading to Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and several other tourist destinations like Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar.
