This is about one such actress whose infectious smile not only admirably woed everyone but her simple beauty and acting prowess made her a great actress too. Unfortunately, during the peak of her career ,destiny called the curtains. The actress died an unfortunate death st the age of 31.
The actress in focus established herself in the south cinema before delving in Bollywood. Regarded a sone of the greatest actresses, her one Bollywood film made her an overnight sensation for Hindi audience too. She had worked with some of the big stars that included Nagarjuna, Rajnikanth and Amitabh Bachchan. Her name was Soundarya.
Born as Sowmya Sathyanarayana, she took that stage name as Soundarya. Her father used to be a Kannada film writer and producer. A star in the Telegu industry, she made her debut in Kannada. Soundarya’s debut movie was Kannada film Baa Nanna Preethisu. Her first film in Telugu was Manavarali Pelli that was released on 1993.
In Tamil, she was critically acclaimed for her superhit debut Ponnumani in 1993. Her commercial breakthrough came with the release of 1994 Hello Brother.
Hindi Blockbuster With Amitabh Bachchan
Soundarya did one Hindi movie starring opposite Amitabh Bachchan. It was none other than the cult classic Sooryavansham. It was released in 1999 and was directed by E. V. V. Satyanarayana.
The film went down in generations and made Soundarya a popular face. This was also her only Hindi film. By this time, she had become an accomplished face in South cinema.
An Unfortunate Death
The death of Soundarya sent shock waves through out the country. It was a major loss for the film industry.
On an ill-fated morning of April 17, 2004, the actress boarded a flight om the Jakkur airstrip near Bengaluru in Karnataka. She was travelling to Andhra Pradesh for her political campaign. By then she joined Bhartiya Janta Party.
Soon after take off, the plane crashed and all passengers were charred to death. Soundarya was only 31 years of age. Reportedly, she was pregnant at that time and was travelling with her brother.
Soundarya’s void cannot be filled, her sweet memory still remains in the heart of her family, friends and fans.
