Massive fire breaks out in gas pipeline in Gurugram

Panic and chaos gripped the surrounding areas of Sector 52 when a massive fire broke out due to leakage in the PNG pipeline. Two cars, which were parked in the green belt area, were gutted in the blaze.

Two fire brigade employees were injured while a female cop fainted. The fire was brought under control after over two hours of efforts. Meanwhile, an atmosphere of panic prevailed and the traffic stopped the movement of vehicles by blocking the Wazirabad road.

According to an official, the fire broke out around 2:10 pm on Thursday in the PNG gas pipeline in the green belt near Ardee City mall on the Wazirabad road in the Sector 52 area.

Upon receiving information, four fire engines reached the spot. A police team also reached the spot. Due to the pressure of gas, the fire spread rapidly and nearly 40-ft-high flames started rising, creating panic among people.

Soon after, the fire engines, including fire-fighting foam systems from the fire stations of Udyog Vihar, Bhim Nagar, Sector 37, reached the spot. More than 10 fire engines were pressed into service and the fire was finally brought under control after two hours. During the efforts, two firefighters were injured and a lady Sub-Inspector of the Gurugram police fainted seeing the scene of terror. They were taken to hospital and were discharged after first-aid.

A senior fire official said the PNG pipeline belonged to Haryana City Gas Distribution Limited.

“The fire was very scary and it took a lot of time to douse it. During this, everyone was in the shadow of fear and people breathed a sigh of relief only after the fire was extinguished,” said Amar Singh, a resident of Wazirabad village.

“No person was there in the cars that were gutted in the fire,” said Rameshwar Singh, the fire official.

On the other hand, a PNG gas pipeline of Haryana City Gas Distribution Limited Was had also leaked in Manesar’s Sector 6. A senior fire official said luckily, the leakage didn’t cause fire to break out. After 40-45 minutes, the supply line valve was closed, and everyone was safe.
