Sleuths inspect primary govt school at Giaspura after teacher raises alarm
The Government Primary School in Giaspur, already embroiled in controversy in the recent past, made headlines this morning after a team of sleuths from the vigilance department raided the premises, sending shockwaves through the area.
The school serves mid-day meals to students, who are in good numbers. To be able to serve the meal the school management procures flour from local shopkeepers in advance and as and when the officials stock of wheat grains arrives it is sent to the shops in lieu of cash payments for the flour.
The school’s officiating incharge SS Sekhon said 14 qunitals of gunny bags containing wheat were being sent to a shop this morning in exchange for the flour that the school had purchased two days ago. Sekhon said, “While this was going on, a teacher called up the police, alleging that wheat was being sent to the shop for sale. This was a baseless claim. The gunny bags were being sent in lieu of the payment for the flour purchased from the shop. If there was any foul play involved, why would the management undertake such practices in broad day light, in the presence of everybody?”
He said the team that came to the school was from the vigilance department and once everything was explained to them, they were satisfied and left.
It may be mentioned here that the previous incharge of this school was suspended and is under investigation on the charges of misappropriation of funds and powers. Teachers at the school are divided into two factions—one supports they previous incharge, while the others support the DEO and other staff, inquiring about the discrepancies at the school.
