Clubs playing important role in health, happiness of elderly: MC Chairman
Senior citizen clubs are playing an important role in helping the elderly live a stress-free, healthy and happy life.
This was said by Municipal Council Chairman Veer Shanti Swaroop during the inauguration of the Senior Citizen Welfare Organisation’s office at the Senior Citizen Club.
He said the state government wanted to make sure that senior citizens did not face any problems, and felt socially active and connected.
The activities started by the Senior Citizen Welfare Organisation were a step in this direction, he added. These activities included health and sports programmes, he said, adding that they would not only improve physical health, but also support mental and social wellbeing.
The Chairman said such efforts gave respect and confidence to the elderly.
He encouraged senior citizens to stay energetic and take part in social work, so their experience could help others and they could lead an active life.
District Social Welfare Officer Satyawan Dhilod said the department was taking strong steps for the wellbeing of senior citizens.
Through such clubs, they were offering different services and activities to keep the elderly active, he added, stating that these clubs had basic facilities like drinking water and toilets.
He said, on International Senior Citizens Day, sports events for both men and women would be organised.
He said the goal was to help senior citizens live a respectful and active life.
Councillor Suman Sharma, Senior Citizen Club chairperson Kasturi Chhabra, Harbans Narang, Devendra Pahuja and Dr Mohit Kaushal were among those present at the event.
