Delhi Assembly to go paperless from Monsoon session: Speaker

The Delhi Legislative Assembly will go fully paperless from the Monsoon Session in July, Speaker Vijender Gupta announced on Thursday. The transition will be enabled through the adoption of advanced software and mobile applications under the National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) initiative, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘One Nation, One Application’ vision.

Gupta, who is currently on an official visit to the Odisha Legislative Assembly along with Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and other delegates, said the move marks a major leap toward greater transparency, efficiency and sustainability in legislative functioning.

“Odisha is the latest state to join the NEVA ecosystem and has implemented an excellent model by learning from the experiences of other states. We aim to study their practices closely and adapt them for Delhi,” Gupta said during the visit.

The delegation reviewed various components of Odisha’s e-Vidhan system, including real-time dashboards, mobile apps and war rooms designed to digitally manage legislative processes. They also visited service centres to observe the backend systems that ensure seamless digital operations.

Praising Odisha’s implementation as “advanced and efficient”, Gupta said the Delhi Assembly would adopt key features of their model. He also announced plans to invite Odisha’s technical experts to Delhi to assist with the rollout and training.

“Our goal is to make the Delhi Legislative Assembly a frontrunner in technological innovation in governance. This move not only supports environmental sustainability but also strengthens the speed and transparency of our legislative proceedings,” Gupta said.

Reinforcing Delhi’s support for the Centre’s digital governance push, Speaker Vijender Gupta said: “We are fully committed to the Prime Minister’s ‘One Nation, One Application’ initiative.”

Concluding the day-long visit, Speaker Gupta and the Delhi delegation offered prayers at the historic Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. Gupta was accompanied by his wife Shobha Vijender.
