Contribute to Delhi’s development, CM Rekha urges industry leaders

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced that the Delhi government has approved development projects worth Rs 4,000 crore aimed at transforming the national capital into a global example of urban growth and modern infrastructure.

Speaking at the 120th anniversary celebrations of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) at PHD House, Gupta laid out her government’s ambitious roadmap for Delhi’s future.

“We are working to make Delhi an epitome of development and an example for the world. These projects will focus on transformation across sectors,” she said.

Calling on the business community to support the government’s vision, the Chief Minister said: “This is a golden chance to serve the nation. I urge all industry leaders to contribute to Delhi’s development.”

She emphasised three key pillars for driving industrial growth in the city — policy, infrastructure, and government support, adding that the administration was committed to creating an environment conducive to investment and innovation.

“I’m hopeful that together we can make Delhi a world-class city where any businessman can thrive, with real ease of doing business. This will lead to increased revenue and employment generation,” Gupta said.

As part of the city’s revamp plan, the CM highlighted upcoming initiatives including the modernisation of inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs), upgrade of hospitals and reforms in the education system. “We must plan not just for today, but for the future. With Delhi’s high population density, we need smart solutions and advanced technologies to meet urban challenges,” she said.

Gupta assured that her government would act as a “strong facilitator” in making Delhi a more beautiful and Viksit (developed) city.

The event was also attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who lauded PHDCCI’s long-standing contribution to India’s industrial growth. “The era we live in is driven by artificial intelligence, data analytics and green energy. For our industries to remain globally competitive, adopting advanced technology is essential,” Birla said.

He highlighted that Indians lead 25% of tech firms in developed nations, showcasing the potential of Indian youth on the global stage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a special message to mark PHDCCI’s 120-year journey, said: “As the nation marches ahead confidently to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat, PHDCCI’s contribution will continue to be important for the future of innovation, sustainability and global partnerships.”
