Bomb threat at Mandi DC office sparks major security op

A bomb threat email targeting the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office in Mandi triggered a swift and coordinated response from local authorities and security agencies.

Superintendent of Police Sakshi Verma confirmed that the threat, received on Wednesday morning, led to the immediate evacuation of the DC office complex and nearby government buildings. “Public safety was our top priority. We took swift action to vacate the premises and initiate a full-scale security sweep,” SP Verma said during a press briefing.

A two-day search operation was launched involving police, cyber teams, and other security agencies. Sniffer dogs were deployed to comb the area, ensuring a thorough investigation. Fortunately, no suspicious object or activity was found, and the area was declared safe. Normal operations at the DC office resumed by Wednesday afternoon, though security remains on high alert.

While specific details of the threat email were not disclosed, SP Verma noted that similar emails had been reported in several states, suggesting a coordinated effort by miscreants to spread panic. She urged the public to stay vigilant but avoid spreading rumors. “The police are fully committed to ensuring public safety,” she added.

An investigation is underway to trace the origin of the email and identify those responsible. Cyber experts are assisting the Mandi police in tracking the perpetrators. Authorities have stressed the importance of public cooperation and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity.

Although the threat was ultimately a hoax, the incident highlights growing concerns about the misuse of digital platforms to disrupt public peace. Officials reassured that strict action would be taken against those trying to instill fear and disturb law and order.
