Hygiene kits distributed to sanitation workers

Aimed at ensuring the health and safety of sanitation workers, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta and Karnal Municipal Corporation Commissioner (KMC) Dr Vaishali Sharma on Thursday distributed hygiene kits, including bathing soap sets, mustard oil and shoes to sanitation workers.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor emphasized the vital role sanitation workers played in maintaining cleanliness across the city. “Our sanitation workers work tirelessly to keep Karnal clean. It is our duty to ensure their safety and well-being. Providing them with essentials such as soap, oil, and proper footwear helps them carry out their duties more effectively,” she said.

Highlighting the teamwork, she said, “We consider our sanitation workers as part of our extended family. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Karnal is progressing not only in development but also in cleanliness and hygiene.”

The Mayor also praised the improvement in Karnal’s sanitation and expressed optimism about the city achieving the top rank in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan survey’s results.

Municipal Commissioner Sharma said the municipal corporation had approximately 1,015 sanitation workers. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, sanitation workers performed exceptionally well under difficult conditions. At that time, we began providing hygiene kits to support their health, which included bathing soaps and mustard oil. The initiative has continued ever since,” she said.

“The sanitation workers often come in contact with dust and debris, which can affect their health. To minimize these effects, a symbolic distribution of soaps, mustard oil, and a pair of shoes was done. The remaining kits will be delivered to the workers through supervisers in their respective beats soon,” she added.

Dr Sharma also mentioned that in January, male sanitation workers were provided with two sets of pants and shirts, while women workers received two suits each, along with gloves. She urged all sanitation workers to use the provided items regularly to maintain good health while on duty.
