BJP attacks Cong in National Herald case, yuva morcha to protest today

Leaders of the BJP, Chandigarh, today launched a scathing attack on the Congress in the National Herald case. Senior BJP leaders Sanjay Tandon, Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla and city unit president Jitender Pal Malhotra in a press conference accused the Gandhi family of turning the legacy of the freedom struggle into personal property.

The BJP also announced that the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will stage a protest outside the Congress Bhavan tomorrow at 3 pm.

Regarding the National Herald ‘scam’, the BJP leaders stated that it was part of a conspiracy by the Congress to seize assets worth thousands of crores. They said that that the National Herald newspaper, established in 1937, was never the private property of the Nehru family, but was a voice of the freedom fighters. However, when its publication ceased in 2008, the Congress provided it Rs 90 crore, which came from the party funds.

The BJP leaders further claimed that Congress set up a company called ‘Young Indian’, in which Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi held 38 per cent shares each. This company was transferred for just Rs 50 lakh, after which the assets of National Herald came under the control of the Gandhi family. These assets included prime locations in Delhi as well as properties in Lucknow, Mumbai, Bhopal and Patna worth thousands of crores.

The BJP leaders also condemned the language used by the Congress to intimidate the Enforcement Directorate.
